2011 Success Stories
My name is Alison and I’ve now had Abby (now Abbie) for a month. We couldn’t be getting along better! She’s the biggest sweetheart who wants to be near me every minute. I told myself I wouldn’t let her sleep up on my bed, but that only lasted one night! She now has claimed “her” side of the bed and is quite happy with the arrangement. My father has already proudly declared that she is his granddog and my parents look forward to my visits home even more than they used to! Abbie is my cuddle buddy and companion since I live alone. My life has been truly blessed so much just by having her. Thank you so much to ACR and to the Cano’s for taking care of such a sweet, loving girl. She has added even more joy to my life!
My name is Andrea and my fiance and I adopted Rowdy from Athens Canine Rescue in July 2010. Rowdy has been such a blessing to us and has fit into the family so well. At first Rowdy definitely owned up to his name and tested the waters in his new home. However, after a few months he really started to calm down and is now just a happy-go-lucky dog who loves to chase a ball and cuddle on the couch. Rowdy is very protective over our 5 month old son and will sit nicely to be pet by him. Now Rowdy has two best friends in our son and our 3 year old lab named Lucky. We have now moved to Michigan and he loves the environment, I can’t wait to see him in the snow! Thank you so much Athens Canine Rescue for saving this dog who gives us as much joy as we hope to give him.
We adopted Luna (Luna Mae when she’s in trouble) in March and can’t imagine our family without her. I’ve always wanted a dog, but my parents and ex-husband were always against it and I think they should be wanted by everybody. George was a little leery about adopting a pit mix, but I knew she was the one from the second I met her. She’s a big goofball who makes you smile the second you see her in the morning or after work. Even my grouchy 18 year old cat has decided she can stay. She’s great with kids and tries really hard to listen. We love her “bully” personality, even when she’s wearing her sassypants!
We adopted Maddy in June 2010 from Athens Canine Rescue with the help from Jenny Manders. Maddy has turned out to be a great addition to our family. We were looking for company for our one year old lab, Ripley. We were at first concerned about the size difference of the girls (Maddy is short and 25 lbs. and can walk under Ripley who is 60 lbs. and 36 inches tall) . But, Maddy really thinks she is Ripley’s size. The are great buddies and we have a large yard where they keep each other entertained. It’s neat to see how they look out after each other. Maddy loves her food and Ripley will eat when ever. Maddy will eat her food up and not touch Ripley’s. Thanks ACR for putting us together!
Maeby is doing very well and it’s like we’ve had her since she was a puppy.
She barks and howls if a stranger is coming down the driveway….which is great! The AT@T man probably doesn’t agree, but I feel safer knowing she’s on the lookout.
We adopted Charlie (now 8 mo. old boxer/hound mix) this summer after falling in love with his “smile” on the ACR website. His foster, Kristen, found him and his brother Walker near a dumpster in a shopping center parking lot. Kristen raised him for 4 months and we must say, she did a fantastic job! We were looking for a playful, affectionate, but protective addition to our family; and Charlie is just that … and more. He is an exceptionally fast learner, and has yet to have an accident in the house. He barks when a stranger comes near the house, which we found very reassuring. Our other dog, Daisy (5 yr old puggle), seems to get more exercise now that she has Charlie to chase her everyday. It’s been am absolute joy to have Charlie in our family these past 3 months. He continues to surprise us with his ability to adapt and learn. Personality-wise, Charlie is a wonderful puppy– fearless, full of curiosity, constantly rolling on his back to have his belly rubbed, curling up in someone’s lap to snuggle, and when he’s in trouble…. he definitely knows it. He reminds us to laugh each day. We love Charlie Brown, and thank ACR for helping us adopt such a precious pup!
My name is Adele and my fiance, Austin, and I, have had Koda, formerly known as Roodie, for about three and a half weeks now. We are all getting along great, and he is such great company. Koda is a huge snuggle bug and loves nothing more than to cuddle with people and make him self comfortable on the closest piece of furniture around. He has definitely claimed the love seat at the house, and we wouldnt have it any other way. Koda loves everybody and adores children. Every time we see someone his whole body gets very wiggly and he cant wait to greet them. We all have great fun together and he is really enjoying his daily plays at the doggie park. We are so grateful to Athens Canine Rescue for bringing Koda into our lives, and especially to Andrea who was so great to work with. Thank you so much!
My name is Jenn and my husband and other first beloved dog Rudy, adopted Miss Piper from Athens Canine Rescue in November 2011. Piper has been such a joy to us and has fit into the family so well. I first saw her picture on Facebook when one of my friends who followed shelters online, posted her picture on her profile. Her sweet face and eyes reminded us of our boy Rudy. At first she was a little timid, but after playing with Rudy she has become much more confident. Rudy is so excited to have a friend around the house. They love to play in the back yard and cuddle together at night. She is extremely loving and we could not have found a better dog! Thanks Athens Canine Rescue!
I had been looking for Maeby for a long time. I think that she was in search of me as well. We just didn’t know it at the time. I saw her picture posted on the ACR website and my heart skipped a beat. I knew that she was the one that I had been waiting for. I now realize that the reason that I never found her before was because the timing wasn’t right. I was going through a painful divorce when I saw her picture. When I read her profile and saw that she had been treated for heartworms, I knew we had something in common, Hurt heart issues! She’s such an inspiration and I am so happy that she was my partner in the healing process. She helped get me out of the house for long walks, she put her head in my lap when I thought I was going to break down. She made me laugh out loud at the silly things she would do…and still does! She is my furry angel.
I foster several cats and have some of my own. Maeby LOVES them all. They adore her as well! When the cats see her, they run up to her and rub up against her. They nap and play together as if they were always family. She doesn’t even mind when the new foster kitten decides to play with her tail. She is great with my two young children as well. My 6 year old loves to read to her and tries her best to go to sleep in the dog bed with her. Maeby has the most gentle and loving spirit of any dog that I have ever known. We are SO blessed to have her in our family. I am looking forward to my ‘new life’ with Maeby by my side.
