2012 Success Stories
Reading about Larry online, we knew he might be a good match for us. The minute his foster mom, Andrea, led Larry out of her car we knew he was the one. Larry totally swept us off our feet at first meeting. Our Larry brings so much love and laughter into our home.
Larry loves rides in the car, hunting for squirrels and chipmunks in the yard, and walks in the neighborhood. He comes to work with us many days and enjoys being around our staff. He also likes swimming at Lake Hartwell, but enjoys floating on a raft even more. But his very favorite thing has to be cuddling!
John and I will always be grateful to Athens Canine Rescue for saving Larry for us. He was due to be euthanized when Andrea took him into her home. Under Andrea’s care, Larry learned to trust again and began healing from the experiences of his previous life. Larry has found his forever home with us!
I adopted Poppy in April 2012. Since the day she came into my life, Poppy has become my best friend. She is the ultimate companion dog; she loves taking trips, playing in the back yard, and cuddling on the couch. When I first adopted Poppy, she had never been around horses. At first she was a little wary of them, but now she has a blast going to the barn and playing with her doggie friends and her “big brother”(my horse Max). Everywhere we go, people always comment on how beautiful she is and try to guess what breeds she is. I am so thankful to call Poppy mine. She is the kindest and most well behaved dog I have ever met. Thank you ACR for allowing me to adopt this wonderful dog.
We adopted our dog Henry (formerly Micah) this past July. We got super lucky and adopted the BEST pup in the world! He is so cuddly, sweet, and very entertaining! Collin and I just laugh watching him play by himself and while at the dog park with best buddies. We especially loved teaching him to swim this summer at Lake Hartwell! Thank you ACR— you gave us our first (furry) child and we could not love him anymore than we already do!
I adopted Lewis (formerly Good Face) from you about 8 years ago when I was a law student in Athens. As you may remember, he has only one eye and is hearing impaired. You saved him when he was scheduled to be euthanized at animal control, and in fact, his animal control records show that he was already euthanized and cremated, since you got to him the day before his “day.”
He was between 5-6 years old at the time and was to be put down for being “aggressive” especially with children. My husband and I are thankful every day that you gave Lewis another chance. He met his first baby this weekend and was as gentle with her as he has been with everyone else. I wish there was a way to show this to animal control, as I would imagine there are more “Lewises” out there who just need someone to give them another chance. Thought you might enjoy seeing Lewis’ encounter with our friend’s baby Layla this weekend.
Thank you again for bringing Lewis into our lives. He is getting tested to be a nursing home visitor this summer so that we can hopefully spread his love with some people who may really need it.
I thought you might like to see how well Luke is doing. He and our other lab. mix, Josie, are getting along just fine! They are together all the time and play all the time. Thanks again for letting us adopt Luke, he’s been a life saver for Josie, and Mom and Dad too! They are loved so much, thanks again!
Colby has quickly become the new love of my life! Thank you so much for taking care of her and for introducing us. She is a special piece of my life now, and I can’t imagine being without her. Attached is a photo that I used for my masters graduation card this past spring. Colby is loving lake trips on weekends, and has even learned to swim and actually enjoy it this past spring! She also loves walking and running with me in the mornings and evenings before/after work. She is a sweetheart and enchants everyone she meets, of course including me with her exuberant personality and willingness to learn.
Thanks again for all you do!
Its been a little while since I have contacted you. I just wanted to follow up and let you know that Charleigh is doing so well. She has really been a blessing to us.
This is a picture of her sitting in the car next to me while we were out and about running some errands. She loves to ride. She is so sweet and very affectionate.
We are so thankful for her. We adopted her last year 2011.
Thank you again for all that Athens Canine Rescue does because it really does make a difference in the lives of other.
In April 2010, Gina stole our hearts and joined our family! When I first started looking for a dog, I wanted to find a dog that could be a running companion for my daughter. After meeting Gina, I knew that she was the dog for our family. Gina is an absolute gem of a dog…sweet and friendly, yet strong and protective. In the time that we have had Gina, she has gone trick-or-treating dressed as a skeleton and as a bat, competed in and won 2 one mile races, competed in a 5K race, hunted Easter eggs, entered numerous costume contests, and supplied our family with 1,000 laughs and kisses! Thanks to ACR for raising such a wonderful dog!
One ACR dog just wasn’t enough for my family! In 2011, we decided that we needed another dog. While adopting Gina in 2010, we met her littermate Penny. At the time, we were looking for a dog that could run with my daughter and Gina was the girl we chose. One year later, we decided that we needed to add another dog to our house and I started browsing the ACR website and meeting their dogs at the adoption days. This time we were looking for a companion dog; a dog who would enjoy playing with Gina and chilling around the house with us. I remembered Penny with her pretty brindle coat from our first search and decided to have her come and visit in our home to see how she and Gina would get along. The “sisters” were great together! Playful and tolerant Penny is the perfect companion for Gina and our family. Together, the girls are perfect. Having two ACR dogs in our family has just doubled the fun! Gina and Penny add joy to our lives every day as they join us for car rides, walks, and snuggles. Thanks again to ACR for raising two such fabulous dogs!
Skip moved into our home and our hearts Labor Day weekend in 2011 and quickly became a treasured member of our family. He is a funny little dog with a quirky personality. His main objective in life is to play and love his family and then to play some more. He has a basket of toys that are well used every day. When he is not chasing his toys around the house he can be found either in his snuggly bed or next to one of us for a quick nap. We knew he was so cute when we apdopted him but now that his coat is growing out we are seeing what a truly beautiful dog he is. Skip loves to ride in the car and the words “let’s go!” brings just pure joy. Our house was bustling with friends and family during Christmas and Skip loved all of the activity and especially all of the attention that was poured on him. We are looking forward to many years of love with this great little dog. Many thanks to ACR for the great work you do on helping great dogs find great forever families!
I had been looking for Maeby for a long time. I think that she was in search of me as well. We just didn’t know it at the time. I saw her picture posted on the ACR website and my heart skipped a beat. I knew that she was the one that I had been waiting for. I now realize that the reason that I never found her before was because the timing wasn’t right. I was going through a painful divorce when I saw her picture. When I read her profile and saw that she had been treated for heartworms, I knew we had something in common, Hurt heart issues! She’s such an inspiration and I am so happy that she was my partner in the healing process. She helped get me out of the house for long walks, she put her head in my lap when I thought I was going to break down. She made me laugh out loud at the silly things she would do…and still does! She is my furry angel.
I foster several cats and have some of my own. Maeby LOVES them all. They adore her as well! When the cats see her, they run up to her and rub up against her. They nap and play together as if they were always family. She doesn’t even mind when the new foster kitten decides to play with her tail. She is great with my two young children as well. My 6 year old loves to read to her and tries her best to go to sleep in the dog bed with her. Maeby has the most gentle and loving spirit of any dog that I have ever known. We are SO blessed to have her in our family. I am looking forward to my ‘new life’ with Maeby by my side.
