Floki – Adopted!!!
born ~January 2017
Meet Floki! Floki is a spaz-tastic little chihuahua mix and weighs a whopping 6lbs. He is likely in the 9-10 month range and won’t get any larger.
If you’ve never heard the name before, it’s a reference to Vikings. Just like the character in that show, our little Floki is quite the unique fella! He’s got the craziest coloring – mostly brown but his back is somewhat sable (the coloring a German Shepherd has where the tips of the fur are black but the rest of the strand is lighter) and his face is silver. His personality is a bit out there as well, which makes him all the cuter. Floki loves instigating play with his current 4-legged roomie who is about 20lbs, pestering him to no avail. He also enjoys running around the yard with his bigger foster brother, Titan, who’s head is larger than Floki’s body… It took Floki a few days before he was comfortable with Titan, but now the two of them wear eachother out!
When it comes to new people and new dogs, Floki is hesitant at first. It doesn’t take long for him warm up to people and he bonds very quickly. If the dog is small, he warms up once the sniffs are out. If the dog is larger, Floki gets a little barky. After he realizes the dog is a friendly fellow (this can take a few days before he’s truly comfortable), he’ll initiate play, get the other pup to chase him around, do whatever he can for attention! Keep in mind that Floki is a bit of a drama king and will yelp if the big dog catches up to him, even though he didn’t touch him! Sometimes Floki bites off more than he can chew, but he always goes back for more! But that doesn’t stop him for harassing Titan yet again, 5 minutes later. So if you have a large dog, there will be an adjustment period before Floki settles. And if you have a small dog, he’ll settle into his new home extremely fast, assuming your little pup enjoys playing or at least tolerates it.
No, Floki is not housebroken but he’s nearly gotten the hang of it! Instead of signaling that he needs to go out, he disappears into a dark corner and does his business. Usually he’s good about peeing outside and it’s just a little turd you find hidden in your closet… but he keeps his crate clean and with a regular schedule he will catch on quickly. Floki doesn’t exactly enter into his crate on command, but throw a treat in first and that’s a done deal. He’ll even curl up and mind his manners while you’re home so long as he can see you. As soon as you disappear, he starts whining.
Floki is a heart-melting nibbler who absolutely loves his humans. If you want to build a super strong bond with a super tiny, silver-faced pooch, this little guy will just steal your heart. His ideal home will have another pup for him to play with (big or small) and if kids reside in the household, they’ll be old enough to understand teething – because he’s doing a lot of that. Don’t pass this little dude up, he ain’t gonna be available long!
