Meet Jasper! This itty-bitty Chihuahua mix is only 12lbs and probably won’t get any bigger. He is possibly the sweetest Chihuahua mix I have ever met! Even though he is shy toward large or high energy dogs, he gets use to them quickly since he frequents the dog park. He is very calm spirited, which helps in a home with children and cats.
Jasper has experience at both the large and small dog parks (and several children too!). As long as the dog is not in his face, he is bouncing around and playing. And after he gets used to the in-your-face canine companion, he gives in and plays with them anyway! He will play with cats too, if the cat initiates it. If the cat doesn’t feel like playing, Jasper is polite and simply sniffs. He currently lives with a feline friend and a high energy dog who is even smaller than him. Let’s just say that he preferred the cat to his doggy roommate, at first. It took a few more days for him to settle in with such a high energy pooch, but now they’re besties! At first, Jasper proved to be a bit talkative; he just wants it to be known where he stands. The politer the new dog/cat-friend is upon first introductions, the more at ease Jasper becomes. Oh, did I mention he’s very calm with kitties too?
Jasper is the opposite of a high-strung pup and pretty much enjoys napping on the couch. He runs around with his foster sibling but also enjoys chewing on a good hoof and taking a break. He loves being a lap dog and will snuggle up to you on the couch. He also follows you around the house and just wants to be where all the people are! He looks up to his humans! Short walks are enough for exercise and he absolutely loves fetch. So if you want to enjoy a lazy day, throwing a ball/toy is good enough for him.
Jasper is mostly housebroken! Sleeping through the night isn’t an issue and he goes outside every time. But he’s still young, so keeping him on a regular schedule and a lot of praise when pottying in the right spot will help move things along. He is crate trained and will enter the kennel when pointing and saying “kennel”. If he doesn’t want to be in his crate, he’ll whine for a few minutes then lay down to sleep. Once he has settled into his new home, the whining will cease. He is very treat and food motivated, so don’t let him fool you into extra dinner! He gets very excited when you come home by jumping around and patting his feet.
This cutie-pa-tutie likes to dance around on his hind legs when treats come out. He’s still working on basic commands but gets so focused by treats that he doesn’t pay attention to what he’s being told to do! His super expressive eyes and adorably massive ears will just get you all goo-goo-ga-ga over this little man, you won’t be able to resist once you meet him! He walks politely on a leash and always wants to make his people happy. Overall, he’s a pretty awesome little dude! If you’re looking for a small dog who is basically a cat (but way better), Jasper is waiting for you!
