Sirius – Adopted!!!
born ~December 2016
Meet Sirius! And what a handsome Border Collie/Cattle Dog mix he is! Mr. Sirius is only 6 months old and weighs about 25lbs. Once he is full grown, he’ll probably land in the mid 40’s. Remember, he’s still a puppy, so he has a good bit of learning to do!
Sirius loves children and would be fine around any age, so long as they understand puppies. What do puppies do? Play, pick up toys that might not be toys, think your hand is a toy, clumsily run into you… you get the idea. Any youngster who can’t hold their own and hasn’t been around dogs much might be concerned, but he’s just a playful, energized chap! With other dogs, he is very friendly but a bit shy. Upon first introductions, he is super submissive and will lay down at the first sign of upsetting his 4-legged friend. With time, he’ll open up more and probably zoomie around the yard!
Structured introductions aren’t necessary and Sirius would be a great dog park dog. He seems to enjoy the humans just as much and will curl up into a ball right on their lap if they sit on the ground and welcome him. His confidence is higher with humans than dogs, but he still has a fabulous time running around with everyone. Loud noises are frightening to Sirius, and raised voices are an automatic cue for him to go belly up. He just seems so eager to please and obey. Walking on a leash seems to be a new phenomenon and he gets very concerned when inside on a leash, outside he does ok though.
So far, Sirius seems to be fairly laid back but alert. He enjoys chew toys and isn’t particularly energetic, but with each day that his comfort level increases, that could easily change. Even though Sirius isn’t fully housebroken, he’s nearly gotten the hang of it! He sleeps through the night and keeps his kennel clean, but he is ‘pee-shy’… what does that mean, you ask? Well, Sirius is afraid to pee in front of people and doesn’t potty on a leash. He’s learning to go in the backyard and has done MUCH better, but it’s still a work in progress. He is, on the other hand, crate trained! Walking in on his own is a pretty regular thing but he isn’t a fan of being put in a crate when people are home. So if you’re leaving for work, he’s fine in there, but if you’ve got company over, he wants to be a part of the party.
With a little more time, Sirius’ true colors will show. He loves praise and is eager to please so he would do best in a home where he can be the center of attention. Apply today! What are you waiting for?!
