“‘Cause a little bit of summer is what the whole year is all about.”

—John Mayer

Introducing Summer! This beautiful golden girl recently weaned eight puppies from The Summertime Litter and is now well on her way to her own forever! She is around two years old and weighs in at about 45 pounds, making her a perfect little pocket lab(esque) dog!

Housebreaking, Crate-Training, and Commands

Summer is super smart and eager to please, and although she came into our care a little skeptical about the crate and not entirely on track with the whole “please always pee outside” thing, it didn’t take her long to get with the program. She sleeps all night long in her crate without complaint, only does her business outside, and is working hard on learning commands.

For example, she definitely understands “stay” and even obeys it… mostly. Sometimes she just can’t contain her enthusiasm, though. You understand.

Behavior around other Dogs, Cats, and Kids

Summer has lived with dogs before and currently lives in a foster home with another dog. She enjoys being around her dog playmate, but does let everyone know when it’s time for a break or a nap.

She’s also been around children before, and has been very gentle with them, as she seems to understand her normal exuberance may be too much for these “hairless puppies” to withstand. It seems like Summer would do well in a home with children.

Summer is curious but respectful around cats, too.

Behavior around People

You have likely seldom met a dog who adores people as much as Summer does. If you’re looking for a shadow, she’s going to be your girl! She’s never met a stranger and anticipates that every human she meets is going to be her best friend (and ready to give her pets). She does the sweetest little head bump when she cuddles you, letting you know that she appreciates your company. She doesn’t even need you to pet her all the time — she’s just happy to be next to you. Foster mom reports that she is a “top notch cuddler who excels at being either the big spoon or the small spoon.”

Exercise Needs

Summer, like most young dogs, is full of energy. She loves any and all outdoor adventures—she’ll lead you to the car to ask you to take her somewhere!—and has the stamina for hiking or jogging, but also loves exploring new venues where there are simply new friends to be made. Once her energy is out, she is happy to just laze around the house with you.

It’s summertime, and hopefully Summer’s time (for a forever home). Contact us today!
