2009 Success Stories

Loretta LynnWe are coming up on the one year mark since I adopted Loretta Lynn [on right next to Bodie] from ACR - aka Maggie's foster care.

She is absolutely the love of my life and I thank you guys and ACR for doing what you do because my life wouldn't be the same without her!

BambiBambi (whom we've renamed Judith) and her brother, Louie, and myself (taken by my husband) is doing great - she and Louie have really bonded! Thanks ACR & foster mom Jesse for everything!

TootsierollTootsie Roll (TR) is doing GREAT in his new home! TR lives with one other older dog and a houseful of Persians and is happy as a clam. TR is happy and loving- thanks ACR for saving this sweet boy's life!

TinkerbellI am so happy to update you on Gracie (formerly Tinkerbell)! We adopted her in August of 2009 and have loved every minute. She loves to go for walks and sit next to me while I'm working on my computer. Although we knew she had a fear of men, my husband is making great progress petting her, giving her treats, and picking her up to go outside. She curls up and sleeps right next to my pillow at night. Gracie is so much fun! She follows our Boston Terrier around like a little sister. Thanks to foster mom Jesse for helping us find this sweet little girl.

MaggieWe adopted Maggie in October of 2009. I can honestly say that it was the best decision we made the entire year. She has brought much joy, love and laughter to our home. She's full of energy and as sharp as a tack - which means she keeps us on our toes. She loves to go for walks with me and especially loves joining my husband on his weekly runs. She also loves making new friends at the local dog park. But, her absolute favorite activity is chasing frisbees around the back yard. Fortunately, she's also a Class A snuggler.

Many thanks to Jenny for finding her, offering her her first home and bringing her to Athens Canine Rescue. And, many thanks to Staci (and anyone else who helped care for Maggie) for fostering her. It's clear that she's been well-loved from the very beginning.

joeyI wanted to share the attached pics of our dog Joey. I had admired him at ACR events for almost a year, everyone seemed to like him in fact! My then boyfriend, now husband, Mike said that while we had a huge yard, he was too big to come live with us at our tiny rental house, especially because we already had a dog. Then when I graduated from UGA that fall, I was lucky enough that nobody had snatched this awesome boy up and Mike got him for me as my graduation present! At first our dog Zippy didn't know what to make of this "intruder" but as time went by, they became the best of friends. Zippy loves to just sit there and kiss his brothers face over and over and over…and every day when I come home from work they are curled up beside each other on the couch. Joey is such a sweet boy, all he ever wants to do is lay on, I mean with, you on the couch. Later we brought in a kitten joey(Tac) that had been found in the warehouse of my office and while Zip may have taste tested him once or twice, Joey was his usual sweet self. These days it's obvious that like everyone else, Tac is in love with Joey. Some of my favorite photos of my boys are of Tac curled up next to Joey, both sound asleep.

Joey is still a bit of a scaredy cat (loud noises like fireworks, balloons popping, etc seem most upsetting) but he's also fiercly loyal and I know would be a great protector, if ever needed. He's extremely obedient and does the best "happy dance" I've ever seen when he gets one of his favorite treats - an "oinkie". I'm so grateful to ACR for taking good care of this boy till the day I could call him mine!

PearlAfter not having a pet for sometime my little granddaughter, Zoey, really kept wanting me, her Mimi, to buy a little doggy. She and her father found a CRITTER magazine and called me so excited that they had found a cute little dog. Immediately I got on line after not being able to find a magazine around Watkinsville. Well, there she was Pearl right on the front of Athens Canine Rescue web site. When I saw this little dog I knew that she was the one for us to love. I applied for adoption right then and there. I also sent a letter telling them about me and my family and how Pearl would be a wonderful new addition. They responded immediately the next morning and it was set up for us to meet the little angel at one of their fall festivities. When we met this special little dog, we knew she was the one. Pearl came to stay with us on November 3, 2009 for a week trial visit. Well, the rest is history. Pearl is home. We absolutely adore our gift. Zoey, Pearl and I walked in the Athens Christmas Parade with the organization and what fun that was. I tell everyone how thankful I am to Athens Canine Rescue for placing their little Pearl with us. We will be taking her to the Mutt Strutt in April because she loves to socialize with all her old friends. Everyone just loves little Pearl. they come and love on her and tell her hello. I thank you Athens Canine Rescue for giving our family such a precious, precious Pearl. Thank you for the work you do making homes happier.

Ginger and JackGingerWe adopted Ginger at Thanksgiving last year. She is the sweetest dog, and such a quick learner! She has become an incredibly important part of our family. Cassandra was her foster mom and I must attribute Ginger's good behavior to Cassandra's early training. Ginger made some noise in her crate the first night she spent with us, but after that - not a single peep - or bark! She is a joy to have as a member of our family. Thanks!
