“You have to remember to be thankful. But in May, one simply can’t help being thankful that they are alive, if for nothing else.”

—Lucy Maud Montgomery

Introducing May! This sweet girl is just around two years old and weighs in at 40 pounds. She came to our program heartworm positive and has successfully completed treatment. She is now healthy and ready for adoption!

Housebreaking, Crate-Training, and Commands

May is both house AND crate trained! She’s good about staying quiet in her kennel, and actually prefers it sometimes as it’s her safe space when she’s overwhelmed and nervous. She has so many endearing qualities, even those relating to doing her business. She prefers to go to the bathroom ONLY if she is hidden (it’s a private matter, thank you).

Behavior around other Dogs, Cats, and Kids

May lives in a foster home with several other types of animals, including dogs and cats. She typically ignores the cats and isn’t interested in being around them. She doesn’t seem super interested in dogs either, but tolerates being around them and appropriately communicates her feelings (back off, puppies).

She’s been around children from 5-13 and has done well with them. She can be a little nervous, however, and therefore would likely do best in a home without toddlers. Bonus points if the children of whoever applies to adopt her have respectful dog manners.

Behavior around People

May is still learning to trust those with two legs. She wags her tail to let you know she’s not a threat, but it’s evident that she’s scared. She is food-motivated and the way to her heart is definitely through her stomach, after which—given the time to warm up—she’s your BFF for life. She’s still on the independent side, however, and because of that she’s also happy to just chill on her own without much interaction if you aren’t feeling it. She’s learning ALL about the fun ways you can be a dog (including laying in laundry baskets), and foster mom reports she provides excellent turn-down service (she loves to burrow in blankets) and is the softest cuddle-buddy around. Just know that once she accepts your love, you may find her pawing you for more pets, please and thank you.

Exercise Needs

May is pretty low energy, but does seem to really love walks. There’s so many new things out there to sniff! A little zoom around the yard is enough to satisfy her, so if you tend toward that Couch Potato Life, May is down for it.

As the internet likes to joke, Justin Timberlake said, “It’s gonna be May.” Is it gonna be May for you? Contact us today!
